1. Introduction • The Expert area in the Participant Portal is a front-end platform for experts interactions with the research DGs and Agencies. • The system was launched in July 2012 and currently serves as a registration service for experts to submit their profile (replaces CORDIS) with a view to being considered for an assignment with the Commission/Agency. • 53,125 experts currently registered of which 42,915 are valid profiles.
2. Expert registration • One of the main objectives of the new registration service was to enhance the quality of the data: • data is collected in a structured format to ensure consistency and improve the search functionality; • rules requiring experts to complete all fields in order to have a valid profile. • Only valid profiles are visible to the Commission back-offices when running their expertise search.

Next release: what changes? • EACEA joining 10 September 2013. • Experts will access the Registration Service from two different locations: • Experts wishing to take part in Research programmes will access the service from the Participant Portal. • Experts wishing to take part in Education, Audiovisual and Culture programmes will access the Registration Service from the Education, Audio visual & Culture Executive Agency page on Europa. • The forms are common for experts for all programmes with some specificities notably the area of expertise section with different 'tree structures' for specialist fields and pre-defined themes.

4. New features for H2020 • Experts will submit their 'legal entity' (identity details) & bank account via online forms; • Experts will sign their contracts electronically based on ECAS authentication; • Experts' will make their request for payment online once their assignment has been completed.
4a. Characteristics of new features • When an expert needs to take an action, they are notified by email with a link to the relevant page in the Portal. • The expert can also access the request/relevant document by logging into the Portal and going to the 'My contracts' tab.
