Information Gap S T O R M C E N T E R C O M M U N I C A T I O N S, I N C. • Gap in amount of information AVAILABLE • Amount of Information NEEDED G A P What’s NEEDED What’s Available research OPERATIONS TODAY - VERY LIMITED COLLABORATION
New Emerging Technology S T O R M C E N T E R C O M M U N I C A T I O N S, I N C. • Through a partnership with NASA & NGC (NGAS) • StormCenter is developing civil applications from military and intelligence sectors • Expanding technology for enhanced visualization and collaboration • Enabling ‘new’ data from NASAto be merged with NOAA and other data for use in decision making • A potential solution thataddresses AWIPSII requirementsfor visualization and collaboration TECHNOLOGY EVOLUTION
Description of Effort S T O R M C E N T E R C O M M U N I C A T I O N S, I N C. • Currently engaged in 1 year effort (Funded by NASA Applied Sciences Program) • Introduce new decision support technology for visualization and enhanced collaboration between NWS-FEMA • Delivered hardware within 3 months • Train NWS SR HQ & FEMA personnel • Assess work environment and operational needs • Identify new NASA data sources that can benefit decision making • Lay groundwork for enhanced collaboration and visualization component for AWIPS-II NWS SUPPORTING DECISION MAKERS
New Emerging Technology S T O R M C E N T E R C O M M U N I C A T I O N S, I N C. • Implement EVTT at NWS SR HQ & FEMA Reg VI • Enabling ‘new’ data from NASAto be merged with NOAA data for use in decision making • A potential solution thataddresses AWIPSII requirementsfor visualization and collaboration • Engage additional players on research side of NOAA (AOML, HRD) • Already new uses being developed atFEMA Region VI TECHNOLOGY EVOLUTION
New Emerging Technology • Accomplishments to date: • Installed Envirocast® Vision™ TouchTables: • NWS Southern Region HQ (Ft. Worth, TX) • FEMA Region 6 HQ (Denton, TX) • Display select NOAA NWS products on EVTT • Display NASA/NOAA merged data on EVTT • Collaboration exercises COLLABORATION FEMA Reg VI HQ NWS SR HQ DELIVERING NASA DATA TO NWS & FEMA

Linking Federal Partners S T O R M C E N T E R C O M M U N I C A T I O N S, I N C. • Within 2 days of installation • FEMA Region VI and NWS SR HQ Collaborating remotely National Weather Service Southern Region HQ FEMA Region VI HQ IMMEDIATE COLLABORATION
Why is this Important ? S T O R M C E N T E R C O M M U N I C A T I O N S, I N C. • Introduces EVTT as a key visualization and collaboration component (future role in AWIPS II?) • Simultaneously introduces NASA data sources to key government decision makers (FEMA & NWS) • Lowers cost of acquisition and development to NWS • Syncs perfectly with NWS Emergency Management meteorologist ‘concept’ • Enhances use of NWS and NASA data with emergency managers & decision makers • Allows for future rapid deployment (local decision makers) Simulated Image DIRECTLY ADDRESSES ASP GOALS
Example of Collaboration S T O R M C E N T E R C O M M U N I C A T I O N S, I N C. • Immediate response when highlighting critical information MILITARY TO CIVIL APPLICATIONS
