  14. The first questions asks if the semesters curricula is not meaningfully compared to quarters. • If you answer “yes”, you … • will not be asked to compare semesters/quarters component hours. • need to provide a good explanation of the relationship between the quarter and semesters curricula, the reasons for the change, and the process used.

  15. The semesters curriculum will be entered by curricular components.

  16. Curricular components can be similar to current DARS components.

  17. A copy of the quarters program DARS and catalog copy can be obtained from the Relation tab.

  18. We will start with the EE/CS Electives component. • BS7254: EE W/ COMP • General Engineering • Electrical Engineering Major • EE/CS Electives

  19. The base component will be labeled with the major code. • Components under the base component can be added by clicking on “Add Component”.

  20. A component box will “pop-up” to enter the component information.

  21. The component should be given a distinct title. • Should be distinguishable from other components in the program.

  22. You may enter any requirement text you like in the requirement box. • Take all of the following courses. • Take 12 credits from the following list. • Take 2 courses and at least 6 credits from below. • ….

  23. There are three type of items that can be listed in the required items list. • Courses • Text • Subcomponents • Standard • Shared • Click on icon to add to list.

  24. All courses with at least a SAVED NOI or course form can be used in the list. • Can search by • Semester course number • Course name • Be sure to select the course after you find it.

  25. Can also include text descriptions • e.g. CS 4**** except CS 4560 • Do not use text for courses – will not update with changes to courses. • Do not use non-specific course descriptors • e.g. ”Advanced CS course in theory area that has significant term project.”

  26. Either “and” or “or” can be implied in the list EE Foundations Take all of the following: • EE 2014 • EE 2114 • EE 2213 • EE 2234 • EE Foundations • Take two of the following: • EE 2014 • EE 2114 • EE 2213 • EE 2234

  27. Either “and” or “or” can be implied in the list but do not mix both of them in the same list • EE Foundations • Take the following: • EE 2014 • EE 2114 • EE 2213 • or • EE 2234

  28. Use subcomponents to give clarity to requirements Component EE Foundations Take the following components EE Foundations Required Take the following courses • EE 2104 • EE 2114 EE Foundations Electives Take one of the following courses • EE 2213 • EE 2324 Subcomponents

  29. Selecting “component” will bring up line to add component • Can • reuse a previously created component or • create new component.

  30. New components can be edited in its pop-up box. • just like original component

  31. For each components calculate credit hour comparison with quarters program. • SEMESTERS • EE Foundations (11 SH) • Take the following components • EE Foundations Required (8 SH) • Take the following courses • EE 2104 (4 SH) • EE 2114 (4 SH) • EE Foundations Electives (3 SH) • Take one of the following courses • EE 2213 (3 SH) • EE 2324 (4 SH) • QUARTERS • EE Foundations (16 QH) • Take the following four courses: • EE 210 (4 QH) • EE 211 (4 QH) • EE 212 (4 QH) • EE 221 (4 QH)

  32. Enter minimum semester and quarter hours in boxes and OCEAN will calculate % change. • If change is > 15% and components is > 9 semester hours, a “Reason For Change” box will appear.

  33. As per the Q2S Guidelines, three questions should be addressed. • How do the changes support the department, school, and program missions? • Did the changes come about through an adequate review and revision process? • Do the changes have potential to harm other departments or schools? • Can answer questions here specifically or in general in other components or in “Summary of Changes”.

  34. This is what curriculum would look like at this point • You need to fill in program totals a bottom of Curriculum tab. • Sum of subcomponents done manually.

  35. Shared Components • If your program has components that are the same as ones used in other programs (major codes) in your: • Department/School • College • University • You should use SHARED COMPONENTS to • Reduce data entry work • Improve accuracy

  36. In EECS, BS7253 (EE) and BS7254 (CpE) will share an Intermediate EE Core • Intermediate EE Core • EE 3510 • EE 3340 • EE 3710 • EE 3950 • EE 3210 • Construct components in EECS Shared Component program

  37. Shared components are programs that start with “SC” … • and a • re followed by department/school or college code: • SCEECS • SCMATH • SCFIN • SCFARD • SCOHIO

  38. Shared Components will look the same as regular programs. • Will have fewer tabs.

  39. Shared Components will be edited the same as regular programs

  40. Exception: If you are using a subcomponent in a shared component, … • You must first create the subcomponent at the top level. • You can then include it in another component.

  41. After they are set up in the Shared Components container, they can be added to the programs. • Available Shared Components will be on pull-down list.

  42. Shared Components can have one contact person and one designee. • Each department/school needs to tell me who that is going to be. • I will set it up.

  43. What about general education requirements? • Can enter as one component: • Ohio University General Education Requirement (Bachelor's) • Can enter only those components that are “over and above” major requirements:

  44. Sample Program of Study • For programs that are nominally to be completed within a specified period of time, • Show a term-by-term listing of courses such that if a student would follow the program of study, he/she would complete all program requirements. • Ensure that all prerequisites and sequentially-ordered courses appear in the correct order.

  45. Sample Program of Study Templates are available on from Sample tab. • Download appropriate template. • Four-Year Bachelors Program Template • Five-Year Bachelors Program Template • Two-Year Associates Program Template • Additional templates can be developed on request

  46. Fill out template • Course number and credits for courses • Names for electives

  47. Submit Sample Program of Study • Word document must be converted to pdf format. • Guide and program to do this provided. • Upload (Will load on next save.)

  48. One more tab to go – the Relation tab. • Can view DARS and catalog copy for program. • Can attach additional materials that describe quarters program: • Graduate programs • Lists available in department office • … • Inform other departments/schools of your changes that would have significant impact on their courses. • nform other departments/schools of changes with significant impact.

  49. Related Materials • Need to convert to pdf format

  50. Patron Departments • Significant Impact? – Treat other departments/schools like you would like to be treated.
