History of Strategic Planning • University-wide committee established in 1996 • Committee reported to the President via the Administrative Vice President
History of Strategic Planning • Data gathered by the committee from internal and external constituencies “clustered” issues around five themes: • Academic Distinction • Service • Cultural Diversity/Social Justice • Information Technology • Community Relations

Current Process • Recommendations to President, process reports to the Provost • “Loosely coupled” with steering committee serving as a conduit between administration and planning units • NCHEMS engaged to provide support • Participative rather than top-down • Communication channels maintained
Goals of Current Process • Link budget to planning process • Ensure academics are the highest priority • Provide sufficient autonomy to planning units yet enable the university to function in a coordinated manner • Establish communication/dialog with all constituent groups • Develop appropriate measures (KPI’s) to monitor progress toward goals
New Mission/Vision • Mission: SCSU is committed to excellence in teaching, learning, and service, fostering scholarship and enhancing collaborative relationships in a global community • Vision: SCSU will be a leader in scholarship and education for excellence and opportunity in a global community
Strategic Priorities • Academic Distinction: Maintain quality educational programs through re-accreditation and selective admissions • Service Community: Improve the campus environment for students and employees • Community Relations:Increase partnerships with external constituents in a coordinated manner
Strategic Priorities • Diversity and Social Justice: Identify and implement practices to increase the recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff of color • Technology: Increase utilization of technology and improve professional development opportunities
