  2. Part 1: Classroom Assessment (QIWK) Background • Classroom: 3rd Grade; Mrs. Conley • Number of students: 21 • QIWK Lists: Lists 1, 2, and 3 • How is spelling taught in class: Spelling is taught in class by using the SmartBoard. The teacher introduces the word, has the students develop a definition, and then they practice the spelling with worksheets and doing physical exercises while spelling the words out loud.

  3. Part 1: QIWK Findings—Rank Order Table

  4. Part 1: QIWK Findings—Word Study Grouping

  5. Part 2: Individual Assessment –Background • Kids name: Jimmy • Grade: 1st • Sex: Male • Jimmy is in a lower level reading group because he doesn’t pay attention and needs to be in a smaller group of students.

  6. Part 2: Individual Assessment –Passage Reading Findings

  7. Part 2: Individual Assessment –Observations • Jimmy displayed much confidence in his reading. He did not begin to have much trouble with his reading until the primer passage. The trouble he had with the primer passage were simple mistakes, mispronouncing the word, “nearer” for “near”, etc. • Even with the late first grade passage, the word. “brought” was said instead of “bought”, “sit” instead of “sat” etc. • Jimmy really displayed struggle when he began to read the level 2 passage. With constantly pausing to figure out words, Jimmy did not retain much of what was being said in the story. • Jimmy was very fluent with the previous readings and by watching him read, you could tell he was understand the story. • Even though Jimmy did not do as well on the last passage as we would of hoped, you could tell that he was trying to his fullest extent with sounding out words and taking his time to read. As he kept reading the last passage, you could see his confidence level begin to fall and he was beginning to question what he was reading.
