  3. What is Ubiquitous LBS? • Most services are location based and not ubiquitous. However some aspects of services and some services themselves are becoming available everywhere in large regions. • e.g. It used to be quite hard to find good coffee and an accessible wireless internet connection, but this is thankfully changing. Key research trends 3 • To unlock operational data for specific uses cases without compromising security • Can it be done and can we convince the data guardians and policy makers/those in power to configure it? • Historical • What were the location based constraints of the past and how do we explain the evolution of networks and communities/organisations • The importance of understanding how we have evolved should not be understated. Key applications 1 • Mass Market Drivers • Social Networking/Community • Many people want to know where there friends are and broadcast their location and have the services they want available when they want them. • Not everyone is going to want a form of waiter service everywhere, but there has existed for some time a desire to be connected to the internet everywhere and to send and receive significant bandwidth data. • Many people like recording minutia of their lives as tagged up visuals and tweets. • Cameras increasingly have location and orientation built in and with developments in pattern recognition technology and 3D modelling allow spatially 3D and temporal views of large regions possible from many angles.
