Aims • To give you an overview of the support available and the key dates ahead for your son/daughter as they progress through the sixth form (key stage 5). • To outline how target setting works at this stage • To outline how you can access information on progress • To share with you the achievements of our students • To provide a brief guide of what is required to be successful and progress to higher education/employment
2013 – An Outstanding Year • Outstanding 14-19 college • Outstanding examination results AS & A2 A2 – 4 students to Oxbridge Students into Medicine/Dentistry and successes in Engineering, Law, Science, The Arts and Maths Strong performances across BTEC courses 355 students from Beauchamp off to Uni, others into training, work or gap year
2013 – An Outstanding Year • GCSE results: We targeted 80% - 5A*-C inc English & Maths and achieved 81% • Overall % A*-C percentage inc English & Maths has improved by 7% • Average grade per student is a B • Percentage of students with 5A*/A increased by 3.5% • Percentage of students with English Baccalaureate increased by 8.1%

Typical Yr12 Timetable • 4 x AS level/BTEC National (6 x 50min lessons per subject) • 1 x enrichment course ( 2 x 50min lessons) • 24 lessons + 2 enrichments = 26 • Therefore at least 4 study periods • Tutor time (8:35am) – Expectation to attend every day • Extra-curricular activities
Student Responsibilities Attendance • Commitment to attend all lessons, tutor periods and gatherings – should be aiming for 100% attendance • Above 95% = BCWiFi access • Avoid unnecessary absences – arrange appointments after college where possible • Contact Mrs Hayes to authorise absence
Student Responsibilities • Ready to learn - correct equipment/resources • Fit to learn – awake • Punctual • Complete work set • Meet deadlines • Take active interest in subjects – read around • Use study periods wisely – Learning Resource Centre • Should consider college as having the same commitment as a full-time job • Part-time work – recommend a limit of 10-12 hours
Yr12 Calendar • KS5 Parent/Student day – Thursday 27 February • Easter – Yr12 Full reports • May/June – AS level examinations • A2 courses start after completion of AS exams in mid June • June/July – UCAS process begins • Thursday 14 August – AS results day/Yr13 enrolment
Monitoring Progress • Beauchamp Online (BOLD) • Allows parents and students to monitor: • Attendance • Progress in each course • View reviews/reports • Beauchapp • Assessment Data Snapshots
ALPS • Advanced Level Performance System • Used last year by over 1200 schools and colleges • Provides detailed performance analysis • Analysis is value added taking into account prior performance • Targets are aspirational and based on reaching the 75th percentile.
Data snapshots The Data Snapshot does not replace the student’s full school report, but provides an insight into their progress to date. You will see that your son/daughter’s effort in lessons, their current grade, their most likely grade and their attendance per subject is indicated.
Post 18 transition • Apprenticeships • Workplace – Some fantastic opportunities for A level leavers • Further Education • Higher Education – University • Careers advice – located in the SSC • In the current climate it is worth considering a number of progression routes. Have a Plan A, B & C
UCAS • Explore subjects • Register & start online from June 2014 • June - University/Oxbridge advice for parents/students • Summer - Research courses/institutions • AS grades = Predicted grades • September – Personal Statement Day • September – Deadline for Oxbridge/medicine • October – Deadline for all other UCAS applications
UCAS – Current situation • 2013 entry was very competitive • Entry requirement inflation • Increase in fees • Increase in applications • Does mean students need to be very sure that they are selecting correct course as it is a considerable investment • Clearing & Adjustment – resulted in lots of successful placements this year
Reflection… • The economic climate is tough HOWEVER • Our 2013 students have demonstrated that they can compete with the best and achieve their ambitions • We will offer you full support, advice & guidance in any way we can • We seek to work in partnership with you • We expect students’ complete commitment in return
