  1. Why Is Obama A Good Leader? Constantly trying to improve the American community Committed to his country Organised and thoughtful Mindful, considerate, reflective Brilliant communicator/public speaker Helpful to everyone – team worker Accountable and responsible Good role model

  2. How Can We Be Like Obama? • Commitment • Organisation and Planning • Communication • Being accountable • Being a Role Model • Using my skills to benefit others • Understanding my community • Team working • Presenting • Challenge and reflection These values are the basis of SLA: Student Leadership Accreditation

  3. What is the SLA?Student Leadership Accreditation • A formal award for things you do inside and outside school which show leadership. • Externally accredited scheme by the Specialist Schools Academies Trust. • Lots of schools are doing this. • Students create a portfolio with evidence for the 10 strands/themes. • Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.

  4. How can the SLA help me? • A certified and nationally recognised accreditation. • Good on CV - edge over other candidates. • It’s not hard - activities you do already count. • Helpful to collect all your achievements – evidence is organised and easy to use in future. • A good way to build self pride and develop • You get a really nice folder to collect your achievements in. You also get a badge.

  5. Our Own Experience • Getting something back for the things that may not be accredited elsewhere. • Any activity is appropriate if it follows the 10 strands. • Working towards other strands that we haven't yet covered. • The ability to easily bring up why we are good as people if we ever have to sell ourselves.

  6. More Information • If you’d like to join, come to: • Wednesday Lunchtime, 12March in Lecture Theatre for more information and sign-up.
