Mrs. Baker • Mother of two children a daughter who attends college at WSU and a son who graduated from U.W. • Married 30 years • Have taught in California and Washington for over 30 years • Taught pre-school, first, second, third, sixth, and all ages of special education • Love animals- especially my golden retriever, Chloe.
School and Classroom Procedures • Birthdays- Every child’s birthday will be celebrated with a card from the class and a book reading. You could read if you like…They can wear a special birthday hat I provide in the class that day. No food please. • Classroom Website • After School Routine- Please let me know with a note if your child does not plan to follow his/her regular routine.

Everyday Mathematics • Developed by the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project • Based on research about how students learn and develop mathematical power • Provides the broad mathematical background needed in the 21st century
In Everyday Mathematics you can expect to see… • …a problem-solving approach based on everyday situations; • …an instructional approach that revisits concepts regularly; • …frequent practice of basic skills, often through games; • …lessons based on activities and discussion • …mathematical content that goes beyond basic arithmetic

2nd Grade Homework • Homework strengthens and enhances the interaction and partnership among students, teachers and parents. It provides an opportunity for students to develop independence, self-discipline and responsibility, while encouraging them to become interested in learning and discovery.
Homework • Reading: Fiction or Non-Fiction 20 minutes each day Mon.- Fri. 1 simple book report due monthly • Health/Science: One-Two skill pages per week on the current unit • Writing: weekly assignments and Friday Letter • Math: sent home as needed throughout the week • Homework is sent home throughout the week • Homework is recorded as complete or incomplete. Please check and correct with your child his/her child’s work.
