  3. Education / Training Extended School Option Student delays acceptance of diploma in order to continue receiving school/ special education services. Students may participate in all graduation activities. Education / Training Adult Education • Quality, low cost training programs available to high school graduates. • Programs are designed to meet area employment needs as well as the educational needs of adult learners. • Full and part- time continuing education courses are usually offered in vocational schools for the purpose of improving skills or personal development. • Length of time varies according to the coursework and certification of the program.

Education / Training Technical School • A school that specializes in teaching specific skills. • Technical training is combined with general education classes. • Programs are usually designed so that students can go right into a career after completing the program. • Some technical colleges offer associate degrees that students can transfer to a four-year university or college.

Education and Training Military • Through the military, technical training is provided based upon individual abilities and aptitudes. • Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)Results are used to determine if applicants qualify for entry into the service. Results are also used to direct individuals toward occupations of interest. The test covers four areas: mechanical and crafts; business and clerical; electronics and electrical; and health, social and technology. Education and Training Apprenticeship • A relationship between an employer and an employee during which the worker, or apprentice, learns a trade. • Training is on the job as well as in the classroom. Apprenticeships generally last from one to six years. • An apprentice works with an experienced worker while learning a trade. • Apprenticeship training programs are usually registered with the Department of Labor or the State Apprenticeship Agency. The programs provide training under conditions specified in a written apprenticeship agreement.

  10. Education and Training College or University An institute of higher learning that offers both undergraduate (associate and bachelor's) and graduate (master's and doctoral) programs. Universities and colleges vary considerably in programs offered and in size. Services may include: • Career counseling and vocational evaluation • Employment services such as work adjustment, job coaching, job placement • Educational services including college, technical or business schools. Initiate BVR referral through the Work Study Coordinator

  14. Services Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation How do I get started? 1. A senior interview is conducted with the Work Study Coordinator to review options and available services 2. If BVR services are requested, your Work Study Coordinator will assist in the referral process 3. School records such as educational evaluations, plans, transcripts and a summary of performance will be released to the BVR counselor 4. A BVR counselor will contact the student to schedule an appointment to begin planning for services
