Mail Gateways • Gateways have been replaced • New Sun 280 Servers • High Availability Design • Relocated to FCC • At no time was the service unavailable to the user community • Spam tagging system added as a front end to the mail gateways • System only adds headers. No message deletion or filtering

  3. Mail Gateways 700,000 Messages per week 16GB of mail transferred per week

  4. Spam Tagging 26% of incoming mail is being tagged as SPAM

  5. Mail Gateways • Anti-Virus system has been redesigned for higher performance and notification based definition updates. Viruses that are encoded as text in the body of the message are not detected with this system • As of March 3rd, 2004 we no longer deliver messages that was determined to have a virus in the attachment

  6. Virus Detection The recent rise in detection is mainly due to the “virus wars” going on

  7. IMAP • 3400 users with 117GB of stored mail on current NT based servers • New Sun 280r servers have been installed in FCC • New IMAP software currently being tested • Server based message filters • Migration testing to start soon

  8. Web Mail • New version as part of the new IMAP server software • Personal address books • Integrates with proposed calendar server replacement • Spell check

  9. LISTSERV • Plans under development to upgrade the Listserv software to the latest release and upgrade the OS to Windows 2003 • New version supports content checking that may allow list owners to keep messages marked as spam out of their lists

  10. POP • Number of users slowly declining • One new user has been created in the last year • Current status • 245 accounts • 219 are active • Over 40 accounts have been removed in the last year

  11. Calendar • Sun Calendar is part of the web bundle license from Sun • Web client integrates with Web Mail • Plug-in has been announced for integration with Outlook (not Express) and Evolution • Possible replacement for Meeting Maker
