  2. Description of Disaster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSGeskFzE0s Sank on April 15 1912 after colliding with an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean. More than 1500 people died out of the 2224 people aboard. There was only enough lifeboats for 1178 people.

  3. Cost and Flaws • The cost of The Titanic was $7.5 million in 1912 which is $177 million in 2013. • The disaster was caused by many different mistakes. • One mistake was there was not enough lifeboats incase of an emergency. Only 1178 lifeboats with over 2000 passengers. The Crew was also not properly trained for emergency evacuations. They were launching lifeboats half filled.

  4. Lessons Learned • The lessons learned were to be properly prepared for an evacuation incase of emergencies. They realized that there needs to be adequate amounts of rescue equipment for every passenger. The crew also all need to be trained fully in handling all cases of emergencies and evacuations.

Engineering Projects are social Experiments • The project was to create the largest ship ever made. • The benefits of such a large ship allows the transportation of large amounts of people at one time. • The risk is that with so many people if there is an accident it is harder to make sure everyone is saved.

  6. Ethics & Excellence in Engineering • They thought they were too good because they made such an amazing ship that they just didn’t care about the safety.

  8. Promoting Responsible Conduct • There was a lack of responsible conduct in trying to avoid the iceberg. It should have been spotted earlier and action taken right away.

  9. Ethical Dilemmas • There were ethical dilemmas with the lack of lifeboats aboard the ship. Not enough lifeboats were put on board even knowing how many passengers could be aboard. • There was a lack of training of staff to handle emergencies to save money.

  10. Micro and Macro • Micro issues were the sinking of The Titanic. • Macro issues were the deaths of most of the passengers aboard and how it affects the families. The companies that were apart of building the Titanic would also suffer as a result.

  11. Technological Development Warrants Cautious Optimism • The Titanic was assumed to be unsinkable because it was the biggest and greatest ship ever made.
