MENTORING APEGA Branch Orientation
General Information • Participants must be registered with APEGA • Program started in 2004. Focus is on soft skill development. • Program is formal with written goals and objectives. Action Plan is the key document.
Focus is on the transfer of work-related soft skills from the more experienced member to the less experienced member. • Program is “Protégé-driven” and generally lasts one year. • Participants attend Coaching Session prior to being matched. Cultural diversity training included.
MENTOR BENEFITS: • Mentors volunteer time & experience—we offer a few benefits: • may claim 20 CPD points per year of active mentoring. • Time is applied towards the FEC/FGC Awards. • Annual Mentor Appreciation Dinners each fall for mentors and spouses/partners.
Annual Mentoring Conference with recognition awards. • Opportunity to be recommended for Summit award for Outstanding Mentor. • Mentoring Circle Events.
PROTÉGÉ BENEFITS: • Receive non-judgmental/supportive relationship with a mentor. • Benefit of a role model and an advocate. • Learn from a mentor’s professional and personal experiences.
Internationally-educated grads have additional benefit of Special Soft Skills/Job Search workshops. • May attend Annual Mentoring Conference. • Mentoring Circles for Protégés.
MANDATE FOR EXPANSION TO RURAL BRANCHES
Meetings with Branches – discussion re: process. • Identification of Mentors & Protégés for participation. • Funding for Recruitment Dinners. • Set up dates & times for Coaching Sessions including cultural diversity with Dr. Laroche.
