  2. Matariki atua ka eke mai i te rangi e roa. Whāngaia iho ki te mata o te tau roa. Divine Matariki come forth from the far-off heaven. Nourish those below with the first fruits of the year.

  3. Mā pango mā whero ka oti. By black and red together it is done. (The united effort of the leaders and the workers will get things done.)

  4. Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te manuhiri. With your food basket and with my food basket, the visitors will be satisfied.

  5. Set noble and realistic goals

  6. ¨ ¨Think before we make a promise ¨Keep every agreement we make

  7. Tama tū, tama ora. Tama noho, tama mate. Someone who is active is healthy. Someone who is inactive is unwell

  8. Give our best to whatever we do.

  9. Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari taku toa he toa takitini. My achievements are not mine alone, they are the achievements of many.

  10. Whāia te iti kahurangi. Me ka tuohu koe, me maunga teitei. Reach for the stars. If you have to bow, let it be to a lofty mountain

  11. Get back on track if we get distracted

  13. Kia marae. Behave in the way that a marae functions by being generous and hospitable.

  14. Focus on a goal and know why we are where doing it.

  15. Keep every agreement we make.

  17. Give 100% to everything we do

  18. He rā mokopuna. A grandchild’s day. (A fine day in winter – a great day to spend with a grandchild.)
