The Gift of the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is the primary gift we receive in confirmation With all the Sacraments, all three Persons of the Holy Trinity participate in Confirmation
CCC The reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace
Effects of Confirmation • Two primary effects: • The confirmed person’s bond with the Church is strengthened • The person is enriched with an outpouring of the Holy Spirit
United More Firmly with Christ Confirmed people more closely identify themselves with Jesus Christ. They desire to be Christ’s hands and feet- reaching out to serve those in need
Increased gifts of the Holy Spirit Confirmed people experience a growth in the spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, right judgment, courage, knowledge, reverence, and wonder and awe. They help us to deepen our faith and grow closer to God
Matter of Confirmation: Hand on the person and anointing him/her with chrism (blessed oil)
