Havco - Safeguarding Children & Young People in the Voluntary & Community Sector by offering: CRB checks (including vetting & barring process) This service has been offered free for volunteers since its implementation in 2003. Over 3,200 checks have been carried out during that time. The process requires groups/organisations to register with Havco and to have appropriate policies in place. Help and guidance is given on developing constitutions and policies when needed.

Child Protection Training for people working or volunteering in voluntary groups Basic awareness-raising child protection training sessions allowing individuals to learn: How to recognise child abuse What to do if we suspect a child is being abused The effects of abuse on children How to deal with our own anxieties Generally keeping children & young people safe The referral procedure

  4. Workforce Development Working with the Local Authority to ensure: An increase in CAF assessors and Lead Professionals Supporting CAF Champions Smaller vcs groups standardise their practices and processes. A robust data sharing policy ie The Big Society portal The development of networks supporting, faith, youth, mental health and ethnic minority groups.

  5. Going Forward Working with Children England, Havco helped to develop and launch safer working standards for the sector. Through this partnership, Havco is a Champion for disseminating safer working practices to the wider community, particularly the smaller groups. The provision of a quality resource for groups and organisations to look at their working standards, implement training where needed for staff and volunteers and generally review their safeguarding practices.
