Crop Performance 2007-08 -Agricultural Crops (Area in lakh ha, Prod in lakh tones , cotton lakh bales) KHARIF 2007 Due to heavy rain during 2nd July to 11th July about 5 lakh hectors of cropped area in Saurastra, middle & north Gujarat region, was affected in 15 districts. So targets were not achieved.

Rastriya Krushi Vikash Yojna • Approved outlay for 2007-08 : Rs. 51.51 crore • SLSC & DLSC had been constituted • Nodal agency : Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation , for preparation of DAPs & SAPs & DPRs. • For Stream-I , Project sanctioned by SLSC on 18-2-2008. • For Stream-II , Rs. 12.50 crore , proposal submitted to Planning Commission & DAC-GoI, Grant release by GoI. • DAPs , Grant of Rs. 2.20 crore release by GoI & it allocated to GAIC. • Preparation of DAPs for 2008-09 is under process.

Seed Requirement & Availability for Kharif 2007(Quantity in Quintals)
National Horticulture Mission • Gujarat State Horticulture Mission (GSHM) a registered society has been set up for implementation of NHM in the state. • Mission is being implemented in 15 potential districts and covers 12 important crops of the state viz, Mango, Chiku, Aonla, Guava, Dates, Banana, Papaya, Lime, Cumin, Fennel, and Flowers, Medicinal & Aromatic crops. • Action plan of Rs 75.00 crore for the year 2007-08. • Grant Release GoI : Rs 17.95 crore for the year 2007-08. • Expenditure Incurred by January ’08 is Rs. 18.68 crore • Main thrust is given on Post Harvest , Infrastructure and Marketing aspect • Action plan of Rs 100.00 crore for the year 2008-09 under preparation.

AGRICULTURE PRODUCE MARKEITNG Contract Farming : Six Proposals are Received viz ATREYS, IKF, Goderaj, Royal Green , GAIC, TATA CHEM and under consideration. Extension : Prepared Audio Visual for success of contract farming Model Act Implementation : Approval for 9 organization for common licence, private market and direct market etc Training: 85 Secretary of APMC , 95 Inspector, 106 computer operators Commodity Profile has been prepared for 8 commodities viz potato , cotton, okra, sapota, mango, cumin, sesamum, castor IT : 319 APMC connected through AGMARKNET. TMC : 45 project worth Rs. 85.42 crore under TMC

Impact on Productivity as a result of Major Initiatives • Bt cotton • Productivity increased from 191 kg/ha (20032-03) to 625 kg / ha (2006-07) , • Increase area 16.75 lakh ha (2002-03) to 25.17 lakh ha (2007-08). • Export of cotton (major contribution of Gujarat) • Water Harvesting • Increased ground water level up to 6 meter in 2006-07, • Created extra potential about 4.00 lakh ha. • Increased crop grown area ( Rabi : Normal 18 lakh ha to 32 lakh ha (2006-07) , Summer : 2.10 lakh to 4.00 lakh ha (2006-07), • Ultimately productivity increased. • Public Private Partnership developed • Horticulture Mission • Insisting using tissue cultured banana plants, have significantly increased productivity of banana ( from 51 to 52 ton/Ha) • In spices crops, assistance is being given to farmers ,using only truthful seeds. So, productivity will increase due to use of quality seeds.(Cumin-550 to 575 Kg/Ha, Fennel-1580 to 1600 Kg/ Ha)
CSS Scheme 2007-08 (Jan‘08 end) & Planning 2008-09 Gujarat Agriculture
Issue : • New scheme should be with staff & vehicles • TMC-II : Subsidy rate of Deshi cotton should be increased • Subsidy / norms / patterns should be uniform in all CSS. • Inter componental change - Power given to State • Contingency fund for minikits distribution • NFSM : Simplification in identification of beneficiaries, Performa of various report are lengthy. • More potential district should be include in NFSM • For Wheat - Gandhinagar, Kheda, Anand,Dahod, Panchmahal, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Surendranagar • For Pulse - Ahmedabad , Mehsana, Amrali, Porbandar, Junagadh • For Rice - Ahmedabad, Kheda, Anand, Vadodara, Surat, Valsad, Navsari • No Testing Center for implements in Gujarat, Proposal submitted on 21-6-2007
