Objective • Select a pet and a travel destination. • Read information about that location and select important places to visit there. • Find two to four things the pet could do at that locale. • Create a one-page site that includes the pet, the location, and the local places of interest. • Share their site to the class and something they’ve learned.
Aspects to focus on: • Students pick a destination that they are interested in learning about. • Look at a web site of what things a visitor might do at that destination. • Use software that student is comfortable with.
Essential Questions • What local places or countries can your pet travel to? • Tell what your pet did there. • Discuss things your pet might see at their destination? • Name the continent your pet traveled to?

Cats Around the WorldShow website & discuss with students • Did these cats really go to these places? Project Timeline Day 1: Classroom – Students look at the site Cats in Paris. Day 2: Classroom – Students pick a pet. They can bring in pictures of their own pets or if pictures are not available, students can also choose clip art images in Microsoft Office, pictures from the Internet (pics4Learning) to use. Day 3: Classroom – Students will pick their travel destination. They can think locally or of their heritage country (2nd grade unit on Heritage) or somewhere else. Days 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8: Computer Lab – Students will work with their partner or small group to create their site and write complete sentences describing what their pet saw or did at that location. Days 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13: Classroom – Students will present their site to the rest of the class. Students listening will take notes in their journals about new places they’ve learned about. Days 14 & 15 Classroom – Students will share something significant they’ve learned with the rest of the class.
Grading Rubric Grade 2: Illustrating Student Writing through Technology RUBRIC SCORE 4 = Shows all of the following strengths: Sentences support the description of the picture. Sentences are not repeated. Described four things the pet does at the location. Created a one-page site showing the pet at a location of interest. Shared with classmates something they’ve learned. 3 = Shows one weakness 2 = Shows two weaknesses 1 = Shows three or more weaknesses
