When is the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)? Thursday, March 27, 2014
Absent for the Test • If for any reason a student is not in school to write the test on that day, he or she must wait until the following year to write the test.
Who writes the OSSLT? • Grade 10 students and any students in Grade 11 or 12 with a minimum of 22 credits who has not yet received the Literacy requirement.
Why do students have to write the OSSLT? • This test is a requirement to pass high school. • If a student is unsuccessful on the test, he or she must write it again next year or take the OSSLC – the Literacy Course that is offered at night school or summer school.
Scoring • The OSSLT is scored out of 400. A pass is a score of 300 or higher. • The tests are scored by people who are hired by the Ministry of Education and NOT Earl Haig Teachers • Results are sent to the schools at the end of June.
Results • Earl Haig’s results are consistently higher than both the TDSB and Provincial results.

Preparation for Students • There will be 8 after school sessions which will be held every Tuesday and Thursday. • These sessions are taught by Earl Haig teachers from various subject areas. • All are welcome to attend some or all classes.
