Annotation of The Music Video We decided to go with the idea of the church being the establishing shot, however we decided instead of doing an awkward tilt up to the top of the church, we chose to tilt down from the church to Icer walking towards it. We also decided to include a shot of me singing at the church door to go with the theme that I am meant to be some kind of angel or symbol that everything will be ok.
Annotation of The Music Video This shot was the first verse, where Icer is in an alleyway with some blacked out boys in the background. Icer is more in the foreground and the only person that is slightly illuminated to help him stand out. [Medium Shot[ To stop the video from being boring we edited in a panning shot [Close Up] of three boys, to the lyrics ‘We are just young black boys trying to be bright to see the light.’ I just thought a panning shot of black boys would make the lyrics more meaningful. I mad the shot slow motion by decreasing the speed from 100% to 85%
Annotation of The Music Video Throughout the video we cut in a shot of Icer walking towards the church, to sort of give the video a narrative. Will he make to good or will he turn back to his times in the alleyways with sinister people? I think the walking to church shot is very important and effective. As the church is like another symbol that everything will be ok. This is a medium shot we used for the first verse.
Annotation of The Music Video A close up shot we used for the first verse. We used to have some variation of shots in the chorus as we didn’t want it to be boring for the viewer. For the second verse we had Icer at the door of the church rapping as if rapping to God. We thought this would be effective for this verse because its quite deep, bringing out deep issues people normally seek help from God to solve.
Annotation of The Music Video In the second verse I inserted a tilt up of the entrance to of a church to the lyrics ‘only god will let me see the light.’ I thought the shot and the lyrics worked well together. I also inserted a shot of Icer and his alleyway gang walking away from the church. I decided to do this as I thought it went well with the idea of good vs. evil, will he walk away from good to go with the crowd or walk back to it.
Annotation of The Music Video For the 3rd verse we decided to use less close ups to create variation. This is a medium close up. This shot is a medium long shot.
Annotation of The Music Video This was the long shot we used for the opening scene of the third verse because we thought it would be a good establishing shot. We used more close up shots for Icer on the third verse because we thought we needed to include more varieties of shots. We also wanted to capture the emotions in his face when rapping the lyrics, as the last verse is more of a monologue of life.
Annotation of The Music Video This is an example of an emotive shot we took, we decreased the speed of the shot from 100% speed to 85%. More continuity of the walking scene, here he is getting closer to the church.
Annotation of The Music Video This is shot from the final verse, Geraldine looks much more positive and the tone of the music picks up to correlate. We added a shot of Geraldine and Emmanuel on a bench. (No dialogue). Geraldine is explaining everything will be ok but Emmanuel walks away to make his own decision. The speed of the shot was reduced from 100% to 85%
Annotation of The Music Video This is the final shot in the video, it is a tilt down from the top of the church to Icer looking up at the light. We thought it would be effective to show the path that Icer has chosen to take (good).
