TMC Services Europe • Public services widespread across Europe • Commercial services alongside free servicescan support cost of enhanced traffic modelling and information gathering
Other TMC Services • Service launched in USA by Tele Atlas, Siemens VDO and Clearchannel • Coverage of majority of key USA cities and roads • Provided using subscription model • Improved coverage of existing European services • Development in new European Member States (including CONNECT) • Demonstration project in China (DYNASTY)
Supported* Service Features • GPS navigation systems can calculate rerouting • DVD and updateable systems can provide whole-of-Europe capability • Inter-Road messages for international service coverage • Precise Location Referencing specification standardised by TMC Forum * Some features supported but not fully implemented by all service providers
TMC Forum - Introduction • New members from within and outside Europe • Significant new activities • Collaboration with newly formed TPEG Forum for development of future RTTI systems
Road Traffic Information Group • New joint working group set up by TMC Forum and TPEG Forum • Aims to ensure a smooth development of next-generation traffic information systems and services • Looks at developments both within TMC and beyond • Addresses specific requirements such as travel time and location referencing
Urban Task Force • Establishing requirements for TMC and beyond • Best support of TMC for urban traffic information • Identification of further features to optimise support in future RTTI systems
Icon Task Force • Objective: to improve the perceived quality of TMC services, through an agreed use of Icons on the displays of GUI equipped TMC-enabled terminals • Recommended icon set for the graphical interface to the user • Guidelines harmonising which icons are associated with defined TMC messages.
New Features Task Force • Objective: to add features to enhance today’s TMC • ‘Backwards compatible’ additions which won’t cause obsolescence problems • Examples: • Tendencies of Traffic Queue Lengths • Precise Location Referencing • Coding of Motorway Link Roads
Other TMCF Activities (1) • Service Receiver Harmonisation • New Task Force to promote standardised implementation of TMC across services and receivers, improving predictability • Ongoing certification of location tables • Improved inspector tool now available to creators of location tables across Europe • Free of charge for creators of public location tables • Robust certification process
Other TMCF Activities (2) • New website: • More information for the general public including service details and availability • Improved private section for Forum members • Industry and customer-relevant news
Other TMCF Activities (3) • Conditional Access administration: • Granting permission and information to provide encrypted CA TMC services using the standard defined
Next Steps • Further New Feature definition and specification • Upcoming Road Traffic Information Group focus topics e.g. Bearers & Bandwidth, Urban Service, HMI • Further cooperation with TPEG Forum / other related groups • Promotion/support of TMC implementation in further countries
RTTI Recommendations • The TMC Forum and Road Traffic Information Group objectives support the eSafety RTTI WG recommendations, e.g. service features, interoperability and coverage • If further National Authorities are encouraged to implement TMC then the TMC Forum can support them in this task
