Forest Landuses • Forestry Workgroup proposes two categories. • Established forest • Disturbed forest • Initial (default) acreage for disturbed forest will be xx% of total forest acreage. • States may substitute their own disturbed acres if known and available for hindcasting and forecasting. (WV, VA and NY will likely do this.) Chesapeake Bay Program
Agriculture Landuses • Hay Land - 3 categories • Pasture - 2 categories • Cropland - 5 categories • Total = 10 categories (currently 4) Chesapeake Bay Program
Hay Categories • Grass hay or Grass/legume mix w/nutrients • Alfalfa w/nutrients • Grass hay w/o nutrient applications Chesapeake Bay Program
Pasture Categories • Pasture w/animals w/o additional nutrient applications • Pasture w/animals w/additional nutrient applications Chesapeake Bay Program
Agriculture Categories • Corn-WSG-Soybean two year rotation • Composite of crops receiving manure • Composite of crops NOT receiving manure • Conservation & Conventional tillage in first two. Chesapeake Bay Program
Agriculture Categories Issues • Corn-WSG-Soybean acreage is unknown, must guess • Acreage in this rotation are NOT eligible for cover crops • Composite of crops receiving manure - need list • Composite of crops NOT receiving manure - need list • Increases the amount of excess manure - great level of transport to balance nutrients & greater expense of fully implementing transport BMP. • Separation limits the acreage available for manure applications and increases application rates on non-nutrient managed acres. Impact of New BMPs • Additional pasture category will address manure applications to pasture. • Rotation separation will address many of the tillage, nutrient application and cover crop issues • Have no clue how to address gravel road BMP. Not sure how many landuse categories are involved. Chesapeake Bay Program
Schedule • Sediment Calibration April-May • Water Quality Calibration June 04 - June 05 • Need to lock down major subcategories June 04 • All details (definition & supporting data) for all subcategories October 04 Chesapeake Bay Program
