Where can you find information about your child’s class? My website on the school’s faculty page.
Field/Lab Work • We will visit Stony Brook behind the school to monitor the water quality • Our results are submitted to Project SEARCH (part of CT’s DEP) to supplement the data they collect. • All safety rules & directions must be followed. • Please stress this to your children! Safety is our top priority, but they need to do their part. • Field work can be messy or wet… • Clothing should be appropriate. • We will be doing a lot of bending, reaching into the water, & walking on leaves, sticks, etc. • Closed-toe shoes are required. • Students should keep a pair in their locker just in case. • Students may also wear waders (provided), water-proof boots, or water shoes to go into the stream.
Long-term Project • Students will carry out a long-term project in relation to environmental science. • Students will: • choose their topic (w/ guidance & approval). (1st Q) • conduct background research & prepare a “rough draft” of their research paper. (1st & 2nd Q) • collect data on a regular & on-going basis (once their experimental design is approved). (3rd Q - 4th Q) • The more data, the better. • Prepare a “final draft” of their research paper including data, results, and analysis. (4th Q) • Present their project. (4th Q)
