  5. ATV Safety Training • Training for Youngster 12 Years And Older • Training On Three Wheelers Or Four Wheelers • No Size Restrictions • Allows Certified Students To Operate On Public Lands & Waters And Cross Roads. • Must Ride on Shoulder Of The Road, Not In The Ditch

  6. Program Consisted Of • Review Student Work Book At Home • Classroom Setting • Check Quizzes In Student Manual • Review Student Manual • Review Slides and Videos • Complete Written Test • Performance Test

  8. Consumer Product Safety Commission Concluded ATV Accidents 1982-1987 • Over 1,000 People, Many Children Have Died In ATV Accidents • Over 350,000 Injuries From ATV Accidents • Every Month Thousands Of People Are Treated in Hospital Emergency Rooms

DNR Safety Training Program For Students Over Age 12, Changes • Take Home Course Only • Certification Is Valid to Operate Machines With Engines Size 90cc Or Less • May Cross Roads & Ride Trails if Accompanied By An Adult With A Drivers License • Certified 9457 Students from 1985 To 2002 Average of about 525 per year

  17. Program AchievementsJune 03 To September 04 • Certified 516 Volunteer Instructors Who are ATV Riders and Want to Teach The Youth • These Certified Volunteer Instructors Have Certified 2359 Students • Last But Not Least Parent Participation In Class, Averages About 50%

  21. Program Consists Of • Take Home Course For Students Under 16 Years Of Age • No Minimum Age • Materials Structured For Students 12 Years Of Age. • Work Book • Written Test

Program Consists Of • The Parents Or Adults Are The Instructors • They See That The Materials Are Read • Administer The Written Test And Send In For Certification • They Conduct The Driving Test • By Law They Must Accompany Those Under 16 Years Old On Public Lands And Waters • As of 2003, 1381 Students Certified.
