  3. Metropolitan France is situatedon the western edge of Europe, and thus lies within thenortherntemperate zone. From southwest to northeast, France shares borders withSpain,Andorra, Monaco, Italy, Switzerland, Germany,Luxembourg, and Belgium. France also borders Suriname to its west and Brazil to its east and south, by way of the overseas region of French Guiana, which is considered an integral part of the republic.

  9. Population Marseille has more than 850 000 inhabitants.

  10. In 2013, Marseille was selected European Capital of Culture.

  11. Climate The climat in Marseille is typicallymeditaranienwith mild, humid winters and warm to hot, mostly dry summers.

  12. How to get to Marseille? International Marseille-Provence airport is located 25 km from the city center.The airport can be reached by bus or train

  13. Public transport The public transport in Marseille consists of: • 2 trolley lines, • 2 metro lines and • 79 busroutes. A single ticket costs 1,50 €. Le réseaux métro et tramways

  14. Cyclingis a convenientway to getaround the town. Thereare a 130 stationsaround the city with aprox. 1000 bikes for hire, open from 6 o’clock tillmidnight, sevendays a week. The rentalcostis one euro for the first half hour, thenitgrows 1 euro per hour.

  15. The white facades of houses, charming squares, narrow streets – Marseille is now one of the most cosmopolitan citiesin France.

  16. Marseille is an important cultural center. City is full of monuments and traces of a rich past can be encountered in all of its parts.

  17. The 19th-century Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, built by the architect Esperandieu, is an enormous Romano-Byzantine basilica in the hills to the south of the Old Port. The terrace offers spectacular panoramic views of Marseille and its surroundings.

  18. Fort Saint-Jeanwas built in the 12th century to defend the entrance to the port.

  19. Romano-Byzantine Basilicaof Sainte-Marie-Majeure, was built in the secondhalf of the nineteenth.

  20. Castled’Ifis a fortification in the centre of the Marseilleharbour. It was essentialy a prison, for about 400 years. Alexandre Dumas madeitfamous by setting the story of Count of Monte Cristo in thiscastle. It’s a siteworthseeing.

  21. Le Palais de la Bourse was erected in 1860. Currently the building is Chamber of industry and commerce.

  22. Marseille is also famous ofCalanques. Calanque is deeply indented in the limestone rocks, inaccessible valleys with steep walls on the Mediterranean coast, very often do not have any directions.

  23. Cusine The provincialcuisineischaracterized by usingvegetables, olives, oil, herbs, garlic and fish.

  28. La soupe au pistou is a French vegetable soup with basil, beans (white, red and green), zucchini and tomatoes. Sometimes at the end of cooking, add a handful or two of fine pasta to the soup was more fill

Shopping The French love shopping.The town is full of shops and shopping centers:- Centre Valentine;- Le Centre Commercial Grand Litoral;- Le centrele Plan de CampagneThe main shopping streets in the vicinity of the Canebièrestreet -rue de Rome, rue Saint Ferreol, rue Paradis and of course the Centre Bourse.
