The British commander in Quebec, Sir Frederick Haldimand wanted to recognize the loyal services of the Natives. • Six Nations Reserve: Tract of land along the banks of the Grand River where Mohawk leader Thayendanega settled his followers. • Thayendanega was given 2750 square km for his people, tract of land along the Grand River by the governor.
Land was eroded away • Turned into Roads, towns and settlements by Non-aboriginal. • Less than 1/10 of the allotment is still within the reserve
