  2. What you need to know First of all, Gonzales is a small town in Texas . At the time, Texas was still a part of Mexico. The Mexican government wanted to protect the Texans.

  3. The Cause • Some of the Texans were rebelling against Mexico saying that the Mexican government wasn’t doing what they promised the Texans .They were mad. • Rebel: to go against something or someone

  4. The Effect • The Mexicans were afraid . Many were scared that the Texans were going to attack. The Mexicans started taking away all the Texans’ weapons, but one town fought back!

  6. Gonzales • Let’s start when the Mexicans were trying to take Gonzales’ weapons .The Mexicans had given the town a little cannon that barely worked . They wanted to protect the town from Indians at the time. But not anymore! The cannon had started the war .

  8. The Battle • The people in Gonzales were angry .They • actually hid the cannon in a peach orchard! They also made a flag out of an old wedding dress. It clearly stated “Come and take it” with a picture of the cannon on it. The battle started on October 2nd and ended several hours later .

  9. The Texans won!
