Objectives Professional Development Committee (PDC) Members will explore: • Roles and Responsibilities • Second semester procedures for school staff development • Supporting colleagues whose certificates expire June 30, 2009 • NEW graduate coursework approval form • Exploring the Staff Development Website • Frequently asked questions regarding certificate renewal • Questions from you and your colleagues

Roles and Responsibilities of PDC Members This list was created by PDC Members at our meetings in August 2007: • Track attendance for all school staff development sessions • Give certificates for in-house sessions- 12 points max (school-wide) and 12 points max (grade level / department meetings); Keeping up with hours • Planning site-based staff development / providing it as well; Answer questions about in-house staff development
Roles and Responsibilities of PDC Members, continued • Review white folders SD website with experienced teachers; introduce to new teachers • Advising – explaining what’s expected with certification to staff members; Make sure they know what counts/ doesn’t in different categories • Make sure colleagues are aware of HCS Staff Development opportunities • Be aware of who is up for renewal; how to support them • Serve as liaison to subject area learning specialist
Renewal Process:District Administrator for Recertification (Gretchen Almeida - Staff Development) • Work with administrators and PDC Members to ensure timely, accurate, and complete communications with professional educators. • Monitor district implementation and adjust as needed. • Make current information readily available.
Renewal Process:District Clerk for Recertification(Anne Moore – Staff Development) • Post credits directly to state’s Certification Portal System (CPS). • Explain requirements to educators as needed.
Renewal Process:District Certification Specialist(Donna Durant – Human Resources) • Renew a professional certificate after 120 credits are posted. • Support teachers by answering specific questions about teacher certificate upgrades, requirements, etc.
Renewal Process:Credit Provider • Design activity, including description, dates, materials list, evaluation, and follow-up expectations. • Seek approval, as appropriate, by school and/or district administrators. • Work with HCS Office of Staff Development to post online notice and/or registration, if appropriate • Advertise to appropriate audience(s). • Maintain attendance/participation records. • Award certificates of attendance to participants.

Second Semester Responsibilities of PDC Members • Continue tracking attendance for all school staff development sessions • Determine who is up for renewal in June 2009; support them in renewal process • Give certificates for in-house sessions- 12 points max (school-wide) and 12 points max (grade level / department meetings) • Answer questions about in-house staff development, renewal
