Funding the Monarchy The Civil List Began in 1660 Nearly 70% pays the Queen’s staff Pays for the Queen’s official engagements (She serves as the official dignitary for the country, not the Prime Minister) 7.9m pounds Property Services Grant-in Aid Allocation from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport Covers maintenance of 267 properties Covers maintenance and utilities for all properties owned by the Windsor Family The Queen must provide each five years a budget for the upkeep and remodeling of the properties 15m pounds

Funding the Monarchy • Royal Travel Grant-in Aid • Helicopter • Railway system • Jet • Any other forms of transportation • This funding is audited by the government • 8m pounds per year • In 2006, the government stopped funding the Queen’s personal travel expenses • Duchy of Lancaster • Land and other investments owned by the Monarchy (Since 1399) • Income from these investments: 8m pounds per year
