What are the six targeted areas in the PROWL matrix? Classroom Hallway Bathroom/Locker room Cafeteria Library/Computer rooms Bus/Parking Lot
Best-practice indicates a goal of six to eight positives to one negative when interacting with students. What would you estimate is your ratio?
Due to the advisory structure, have you seen an improvement in student academics and behaviors?
Due to the added PBIS support structures, have you seen an improvement in student attendance?
Due to the added PBIS support structures, have you seen decrease in student referrals?
What is active supervision? • Always being aware of what is going on around you - in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria etc... • Being actively engaged with students in order to defuse inappropriate behaviors. • Being in the halls during passing time and interacting with students as you move through out the hall area • Being in the hallway between bells, moving up and down the hallways, watching stairs - something besides camping out in your room or standing right by your door • Catching good behavior while avoiding bad decisions • Be proactive not reactive.
Behavior referrals Advisory Check and Connect Grades Formative and Summative Assessments Attendance The RtI team monitors the progress of those students the PBIS team routinely monitors school wide progress by use of SWIS reports Structured Study Halls Homework Club Math Lab Reading classes Regular classroom modifications Teachers also monitor hallways to and intervene with students and actually teach them positive behavior skills. Time is also used within advisory classes to teach students these skills. Teacher reporting 7th and 8th grade team meetings so if a student is falling behind in any way we recognize that and pool ideas of how to help the student. CBM's MAP testing MCA testing Through RtI interventions, tests, graphs and data gathered from these things Monitoring student progress at HFHS
Desired Outcomes of RtI and PBIS Improvement in Academics and Behaviors Improvement in student attendance Decrease in student referrals Use of data to make decisions
Staff feel that RtI and PBIS are being implemented successfully. Staff knowledge of academic interventions is quite broad. Most responded quite in depth. Check and Connects are happening regularly in almost all advisory classes. Most staff report using more positives with students than negatives. Active supervision is occurring. Data is being used to make decisions for kids. Areas of Strength
Problem Solving Communication Review of Tier 1, 2, and 3 interventions for both RtI and PBIS, especially social emotional areas Review of the PROWL Matrix, especially the 6 targeted areas Reward system for PBIS is not quite implemented. But many staff are aware of the system. Sharing of data with staff to show: Is the advisory structure helping kids with academics, behaviors, referrals, and attendance? Possible Growth Areas
