Battle of Little Big Horn • –last victory for the American Indian • CUSTER and all of his soldiers were killed (by Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse)
Chief Joseph • Led the Nez Perce Indians to Canada and they were defeated by the army. “From where the sun now stands I will fight no more forever."
Battle of Wounded Knee • During the winter of 1890, police officers and US Army personnel in Wounded Knee, SD were frightened by the Ghost Dance and were going to arrest Chief Sitting Bull. In a standoff, he was shot to death. Angry Sioux tribe members petitioned the US Army for an explanation – then shots were fired. Within a few minutes, machine guns were used and over 200 tribesmen died.
