The Boston busing crisis, 1974 By: Alexis Soto 2/3
Similar to Brown vs. Board of education: • In 1965, Massachusetts had passed a law the “Racial Imbalance Act”, which ordered schools to desegregate. Blacks weren’t allowed to ride the same bus as the whites to school.
How the research was finally issued: • After many protest and violence, African American parents filed a law suit against the Boston School committee. It was called Morgan vs. Hennigan. The judge ruled that Boston Public Schools had deliberately maintained segregated schools and were found guilty.
Did it keep with the brown or did it turn away from it: • No, it did not keep in with Brown. It didn’t keep in with Brown because it still dealt with racism, segregation, and desegregation.
How it reveals about American culture: • It reveals that the American culture was selfish I say because they didn’t allow one to ride the same bus as them and to have the exact same education as the whites because the blacks skin color. To me I thought it was selfish of the Whites to do this.
Is the issue still being debated: • No, this issue is not being debated still. I think with having a newer and better economy every body has set aside peoples differences and learned to except others. Now every body from blacks, whites, Hispanic, etc ride and go to the same school.
