  1. TIKI Wine & Vineyards Company Overview January 2012

  2. 1. The TIKI story Welcome to TIKI, an exciting new range of quality New Zealand wines. Founders and owners, Royce and Sue McKean, named their new wine venture TIKI to pay homage to the wisdom of Royce’s Maori ancestors. Royce’s great-great grandfather, Tiki Tere Mihi, was a chieftain of Ngati Uenuku, who revered the land and its significance to his people. The esteemed tiki is also a powerful good luck charm. TIKI’s family-owned vineyards are all certified sustainable and organically farmed (since March 2011) under the guiding Maori principles of kaitiakitanga: guardianship, protection and preservation of the earth.

  3. 2. Our mission Our mission is to make organically farmed premium New Zealand wines that are available at competitive prices in all channels of the global wine market. We compete in quality and value with the larger New Zealand wine companies that use traditional chemical farming practices. SUPPLY As owners of New Zealand’s largest organically farmed estate vineyards, we work with distributors and retailers to provide high quality, organically farmed New Zealand wine. COST Our size allows us to keep the cost of our wines on par with commercial producers of non-organic New Zealand wines. QUALITY ORGANIC Farming naturally, biologically and organically, using no agrichemicals, herbicides, insecticides or pesticides, treating the land with the respect it deserves, enables us to deliver the highest quality product available to wine lovers all over the world.

  4. 3. Evan Ward Head winemaker One of New Zealand’s most respected winemakers with over 30 years winemaking experience. Evan joined the TIKI Team as Head Winemaker from the 2010 vintage. Pete Kerdemelidis National Vineyards Manager Pete has been a viticulturist for the last 12 years and has worked in four of the major wine growing regions in New Zealand. He joined TIKI in 2008 and has been instrumental in bringing the vineyards to the high standard they are today. Darryll Puddy of Fruit Driven Wines is our Export Manager for Europe and is an integral part of our team. Being based in Market, Darryll and his colleagues will be able to offer real time support and help build our portfolio of brands with our European distribution partners.

  5. 4. Viticulture and winemaking philosophy TIKI Wine & Vineyards creates top quality by: • Finding the best vineyard sites in New Zealand’s South Island grape growing regions. TIKI has vineyards in the Upper Wairau Valley (Marlborough), Waipara (North Canterbury and Gibbston Valley (Central Otago). • Employing the best viticulturists and winemakers to expertly manage the vineyards and make our wines. • The viticulture and winemaking team work closely together to ensure that the grapes are in optimum condition for winemaking. • Sustainable, natural and organic farming of our vineyards. • Minimalist and natural approach to winemaking.

  6. 5. Our family farms naturally Our family vineyards are all certified ‘sustainable’ and we farm our land naturally and organically. We care for our land under the guiding Maori principles of Kaitiakitanga: guardianship, protection and preservation of the earth. The way we farm is better for you and better for the planet. Our national vineyard manager Peter Kerdemelidis is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable experts on organic vineyard management in New Zealand. TIKI vineyards are certified sustainable and are part of BioGro’s organic certification since March 2011. From vintage 2012 we will use the Bio “organics in transition” logo.

  7. 6. Brand portfolio The TIKI range has three tiers: Our TIKI Black Label is the most premium with a gold-medal winning Central Otago Pinot Noir from the Gibbston Valley. TIKI Single Vineyard wines are made in our vineyards which are the highest in the Upper Wairau Valley. The soils of these single vineyards and their unique climate provide distinctive flavours, fine acidity and elegance to the wines. TIKI Estate Wines are made from our vineyards in the Upper Wairau valley and our Waipara vineyards. Purity and freshness are the underlying expression of the wines. This range of wines offers excellent value for money. This is the most widely distributed label under the TIKI brand.

  8. MAUI The MAUI brand is the ‘little brother’ to TIKI in our brand portfolio. The wines take their name from Maui, the demi-god who as legend tells us captured the sun and pulled New Zealand out of sea. This range may be sourced from any of our three wine growing regions in the South Island, Marlborough, Waipara and Central Otago.  Maui Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2011 was judged Champion Sauvignon Blanc from 240 wines by a team of judges led by Bob Campbell MW at the 2011 NZ International Wine Show. The Maui range also offer exceptional value for money.

  9. ALPINE VALLEY ALPINE VALLEY wines are specialist expressions of the higher altitude Wairau Alpine Valley growing region. This range is a niche brand and targeted to specific channel (e.g. direct marketing, restaurants, specialist retail opportunities) and export sales. The range will be launched in Ontario Canada by Churchill Cellars in January 2012 through the LCBO. This range is excellent quality with four gold medals for its 2011 vintage so far. It is the best value range in the brand portfolio.
