Grade Level Rotations Students in 1st grade will begin rotations amongst the grade level later in the year. These rotations will involve your students visiting other teachers and classrooms in 1st grade for reading, math, etc… These rotations will allow for flexible grouping and more targeted instruction among students with similar ability levels.
iPads Cannon iPad Expectations • I will only download teacher approved apps. • My camera roll Camera Roll will always include: • 1 background picture with my face. • 1 Picture of the purple card (id and pw). • I will only use the camera for educational purposes. • I will hold my iPad using an iHug - 2 hands rule. • I will keep food and drink away from my iPad. • I will bring my iPad fully charged each day. • I will leave my iPad charger at home. • I will keep my iPad in my backpack before and after school. • I will not use my iPad on bus or in KidzU.

Standards-Based Report Card Curriculum Night Overview Information
Where do the standards come from? What Is A Standards- Based Report Card? A standards-based report card is a detailed report to parents every 9 weeks that shows: • The skills and expectations that have been taught during the grading period • The degree to which students have mastered these skills at this point in the year The standards on the report card include the most critical Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) from our state’s curriculum. They are sequenced on the report card in a way that matches the order they are taught in GCISD.
But what if… What can you expect? What if my child isn’t progressing as expected? They will continue to receive instruction and support as they progress toward the standard. With standards-based assessment, students keep working toward each skill until mastery is achieved. What if my child has already mastered most of the grade level standards? Their teacher will realize this because of the specific assessments they’re constantly conducting and will enrich and extend children’s learning accordingly. Information about these enrichment/extension opportunities will be shared in the comments portion of the child’s report card. • If your child is struggling to make progress on a standard, your child’s teacher will be in communication with you about the issue prior to the end of the grading period. • This year there will not be a separate progress report. As teachers assess the standards, we will record that information on the actual report card in their Google Drive folder. This information may be updated when we do further assessments before the report card “date”. You will have access to the report card so you can check their progress. • At the end of the grading period, you will be able to see the final report on how your child has done on all of the standards for that grading period.

Mrs. Heard’s Schedule
Attendance School Hours: 7:35 - 2:55 The Tardy bell rings at 7:40. • Please send a note when your child returns to school following an absence - even if you called to report the absence. • Only illness and funerals are considered excused absences. • 3 unexcused absences will prompt a letter from the district. • It is very important that your child attend school everyday...HOWEVER...if your child is running a fever or is vomiting, please do not send them to school. Children should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Drop Off / Pick Up • Morning drop off and Breakfast • If your child plans to eat breakfast, please remind them to pick their breakfast up in the cafeteria upon arrival to their classroom. • Front pick-up • Car Signs
Classroom Management Restorative Practices: “Being restorative is about building relationships and connections with students which will positively impact academic performance.” Key Components: • Circle-up...class meetings • Developing class norms • Restorative chats • Personal accountability • Empathy • Scholar Reflection Behavior Response to Intervention Stages: • Restorative Chat/ Scholar Reflection Sheet • Parent Phone Call • Scholar meeting with Mrs. Coburn • Teacher/Scholar/Parent meeting with Mrs. Coburn • Office Referral
Discipline • First time a rule is broken - verbal warning (unless it is severe). • After two warnings student will walk laps at recess for the first couple of minutes. • If there is a severe issue the office will be notified.
Birthdays Students may pass out party invitations if they have one for all students in their class. If all students are not invited, please pass out invitations privately. We have 20 students. Parents may not send or bring any kind of food treats, but may send other surprises (pencils, stickers, etc…) in individual bags to be sent home with students.
