System MRSA Screening • Includes High Risk Pts: All CCU admissions Chronic Dialysis pts LTC Others at Physician discretion Hx of MRSA • Beaches will purchase a PCR developer (2 hr) • Testing will be done on the unit
Positive MRSA –automatic contact precautions for a 2 yr period (no testing for removal of precautions) After 2 yr period – previously positive re-admissions will require 1 negative result to remove precautions System MRSA Screening
H1N1 Protocol As of August 13, 2009
System “Talking Points for H1N1” • Any Pt exhibiting flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, n/v and or diarrhea) should be placed on Droplet /Standard precautions • Please do not come to work if you are feeling ill. Individuals are contagious 24 hrs prior to symptom onset
Assume Influenza is Novel H1N1 PCR with no further testing unless Critically ill or death Droplet / Standard Precautions Transporting – Pt wears surgical mask Pregnant HCW should be reassigned when possible Recommendations For H1N1Developed System Hospital Epidemiology Group
Use of Respirators The N95 Masks are indicated for the following procedures: • Bronchoscopy • Open suctioning of airway secretions • Resuscitation involving emergency intubation or cardiopulmonary resuscitation • Endotrachial intubation • Sputum induction
Use of Respirators N95 masks are not indicated for the following procedures: • Collection of Nasopharyngeal specimens from suspected or confirmed H1N1 pts • Closed suctioning of airway secretions • Administration of nebulizer treatments
Recommendations for H1N1 Treatment • There is no need to treat if Pt has had symptoms > 48 hrs unless pt is in critical condition • Tamiflu 1 pill (75mg/day x 10 days) • Employee can return to work after 1st dose of Tamiflu • If exposed employee is pregnant – contact Obstetrician • If exposed employee refuses Tamiflu – off work for 7 days from last exposure
