Injector/Linac Management • Organization • Safety - Design and Installation • Estimate to Complete • Performance • Installation Goals • 2007 and 2008 Work • Summary
LCLS Injector/Linac Organizational Chart • Mechanical engineers matrix into Injector/Linac organization • Installations are supported by different operation groups and/or contractors • Jim Turner coordinates all safety concerns with Safety Overview committees and has safety oversight for Linac • Continue to support commissioning
Injector-Linac Integrated Safety Management • Define Scope of Work • Design of beamlines, systems and components • Laboratory downtime installation schedule • Analyze Hazards • Design Reviews: RF, lasers, electrical, Installation • Ray trace, Beam loss scenarios • Citizen committee reviews (SOC) • Develop/Implement Hazard Controls • PPS, laser safety, personnel training • Magnet terminal covers, lifting lugs, barriers, labeling • Installation Readiness Review • Fabricate Components, Install Beamlines • Safety tailgate meetings • Inspections – all hardware are signed off by physicist, engineer, control and metrology • Review safety performance • Integrate lessons learned into next cycle
Injector • Injector completed installation in March 2007 • Closed all injector accounts • Commissioning started in April • Commissioning has been slow due to faulty hardware • Problems with quality of fabrication and installation of diagnostics • 2007 and 2008 installation hardware: we have instituted an RFI sign-off sheet, requiring approvals from physicist, engineering, controls and metrology
Injector Cost and Schedule Variance • Schedule Variance Drivers: • All efforts were dedicated to Linac housing installation, thus delayed injector vault installation • Cost Variance Drivers: RF, Integration • RF Gun, Structures and Diagnostics, more effort required than estimated • Integration more complicated, unforeseen or inherited tasks
Linac Estimate to Complete • 2007 installation on schedule • September thru November 2007 • Installation of BC2 and L3, not L2 (in Linac housing) • Cable installation through the BSY • All parts in fabrication or are ready for installation • Implemented new material planning • Held Installation Readiness Reviews and PMOG 2007 installation review • 2008 installation planning is underway • Early Occupancy installation held constant at Nov. 1, 2007 • Installation of LTU and E-Dump – complete by October 2008 • All magnets are available for installation or have been ordered, except BYD which is out for quote • Completed design on standard drift length chambers • Installation drawings are almost complete • Support stands have been ordered (scheduled deliveries in September 2007) • Ready to place order for support stand installation in next two weeks • Integrated installation scheduling coordinated by R.M. Boyce
LCLS Linac Level 3 Milestones • May 2007 data • Will meet scheduled milestones except - • LTU and E-Dump component installations • Wait for LTU Commissioning Start
Linac Cost and Schedule Variance • Schedule Variance Drivers: Installation • L1 Install behind schedule, late components, deferred some installation • Designs for 2007 and 2008 delayed due to 2006 installation delays • Cost Variance Drivers: • Profile monitors; more types required than estimated • Under estimate cost of engineering, designs and fabrication • CR effects – uncertainties of LTU installation schedule
