  1. Getting to the Peak: A Mountaineer's Guide to Building Custom Forms with Delivered 9.2 Tools Paul Taylor July 18, 2018

  2. Presenter Paul Taylor President & CEO Gideon Taylor paul@gideontaylor.com

  3. Gideon Taylor Consulting & Oracle Gideon Taylor, headquartered in Pleasant Grove, Utah, is a PeopleSoft custom solutions provider for business, education, and government organizations. 4. What is a Custom Form in 9.2? • Custom = not a delivered PS transaction • Starts with a mobile UI accessible to casual users • Delivers reasonably robust functionality • Workflow facilitates mobile approvals • Updates a delivered PeopleSoft component

  5. Meet the 9.2 Tools • Fluid Interface • Activity Guides • Approval Framework (AWE) • Fluid Approvals • Page Composer

  6. 9.2 Tools We Won’t Cover, Because… • Forms & Approval Builder • Not reasonably robust • HCM Guided Self-Service • Configurable, but not custom • Field & Page Configurator • Can configure delivered pages, not build new pages / forms

  7. 9.2 Best Practices Tools for Custom Forms Navigation – Activity Guide Approvals & Notifications – Approval Framework (AWE) Pages & Fields – Fluid Development Who When What – Page Composer How – Fluid Approvals

  8. Fluid Development Navigation – Activity Guide Approvals & Notifications – Approval Framework (AWE) Pages & Fields – Fluid Development Who When What – Page Composer How – Fluid Approvals

  9. Fluid Interface • Pros: • Native responsive mobile PeopleSoft experience • More stable with each Tools release • Broad acceptance - here to stay • Cons: • Still hard to develop in

  10. Think You Aren’t “On Fluid?” Think Again! • Fluid is both a navigation scheme (Homepages & Tiles) and a responsive page scheme • Just because you haven’t turned off the Classic breadcrumb menu doesn’t mean you can’t use Fluid pages • There is no “switch” to turn Fluid pages on or off – you just use them or you don’t • Oracle will keep delivering more Fluid pages, it will just get harder not to use them

  11. Activity Guides Navigation – Activity Guide Approvals & Notifications – Approval Framework (AWE) Pages & Fields – Fluid Development Who When What – Page Composer How – Fluid Approvals

  12. What Is an Activity Guide? A conceptual and visual framework to guide the user through an activity that can cross multiple save points

  13. Horizontal = Train Stops (5 stops max) Optimized = Side panel navigation Non-Optimized = Dropdown navigation Guided = Next & Previous buttons Non-Guided = No nav buttons Sequential = Must be done in order Non-Sequential = Complete in any order Types of Activity Guides

  14. Activity Guide: “Train Stop”

  15. Activity Guide: “Train Stop”

  16. Activity Guide: “Train Stop”

  17. Activity Guide: Side Panel

  18. Activity Guide: Dropdown Menu

  19. Template: Layout the Activity Guide, with a progression of Action Items Manage security for Administrators, Contributors, and Viewers Yes/No Questionnaire can be set up, and can drive what Action Items are included Start Date and Due Date Action Item: Can be a page, script, process, or app class % Complete, priority, image, Start Date & Due Date Dependencies (parent/sub steps) Activity Guides: Config Aspects

  20. Activity Guides: Tech Aspects • Action Items (including the pages themselves) must be built technically • Instance: A transaction occurrence of the Activity Guide • You start an Activity Guide for a user by creating a new Instance. This is typically a technical task; you write code that creates the new Instance based on a triggering event or user action. • Data is stored in standard PeopleSoft tables built in App Designer • Data management (prepopulation, repopulation) • Dynamic and conditional behavior (other than questionnaire-driven Action Item selection) • Edits • Lookups • Related displays

  21. Activity Guide: Config vs. Tech Config Tech

  22. Approval Framework (AWE) Navigation – Activity Guide Approvals & Notifications – Approval Framework (AWE) Pages & Fields – Fluid Development Who When What – Page Composer How – Fluid Approvals

  23. What is Approval Framework (AWE)? A workflow engine to route transactions for approval and send associated notifications

  24. Set up workflow Stages, Paths, Steps Serial or parallel approvals Approval Framework (AWE): Config Aspects

  25. Set up workflow Stages, Paths, Steps Serial or parallel approvals Some configurable approval list options Various options for allowing/disallowing self approval, required approvals, minimum approvals, etc. Some configurable conditional workflow criteria Simple email and worklist notifications Approval Framework (AWE): Config Aspects

  26. Approval Framework (AWE): Tech Aspects • The “hooks” to start workflow from within an application have to be coded • Any updates to workflow status outside of the Fluid Approvals application must be coded • User Lists of any complexity must be coded • Conditional criteria of any complexity must be coded • Rich-text notifications, putting form data into notifications, or complex notification routings need to be coded

  27. Fluid Approvals Navigation – Activity Guide Approvals & Notifications – Approval Framework (AWE) Pages & Fields – Fluid Development Who When What – Page Composer How – Fluid Approvals

  28. A browser-based PeopleSoft application to complete approval tasks Fluid Approvals

  29. Fluid Approvals

  30. Fluid Approvals: Config Aspects AWE transactions can be registered for use with Fluid Approvals

  31. Approval Page Composer Navigation – Activity Guide Approvals & Notifications – Approval Framework (AWE) Pages & Fields – Fluid Development Who When What – Page Composer How – Fluid Approvals

  32. Approval Page Composer • A tool to pull data out of the database to show in the Fluid Approvals application while the user approves a workflow transaction.

  33. What Page Composer ISN’T… Page Composer is NOT a tool to build PeopleSoft or form pages! The real name is Approval Page Composer. It only builds pages that show data in the Fluid Approvals application. It can’t build pages you can enter data into to update the system.

  34. Approval Page Composer: Config Aspects • Set up records to pull information from • Choose a columnar field layout (no grids) • Drill into detail pages

  35. Approval Page Composer: Tech Aspects • Might need to build new views to pull data from
