Rioja DOCa Viura 2009 Spain Variety Area of Origin Terroir Vinification Tasting notes Foodpairing 100% Viura Rioja Alta Rioja Alta is situated on the west bank of the river Ebro, which is famous for its fine, elegant wines with lower alcohol content. There are well-known vineyards that occupy about 29,000 hectares, which for several centuries produce top wines. The most popular variety is Tempranillo, which occupies most of the Rioja. Rioja Alavesa is famous for its unique types of fruit wines. Rioja Baja is located on 25,000 hectares east of Logrono where the dark varieties are grown. The grapes for this wine were sourced from the selected vineyards around the town of Haro who have long-term contracts with the winery. The vineyards are on average 20 years old. There are long and cold winters, warm summers with colder nights and the average daily temperature here is around 11C. The soils here are very diverse. Harvest: beginning of October. After a short cold maceration of the whole berriesthe wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks at a maximum temperature of 12 - 15C, in order to maintain the varietal characteristics of the grapes. Bright, light yellow color. Fresh aromas of apple and pineapple with the characteristics of white flowers. Fresh, fruity, long finishand a good balance between fruit and acid. Match for fish, shellfish, smoked meats and many types of fresh and light aged cheeses.
