Ethnographic Research • Most of nurses time is spent moving patients. • Simple tasks such as moving from bed to chair require patients to have assistance. • Independence taken away, relay to much on help when it can be avoided. • People reduced to sitting in chairs for the day not being able to interact with hobbies they had before they went into the nursing home. • Certain equipment not used as it is to complicated. • If a task could not be completed correctly by a patient they tended not to repeat the task and just gave up. • Using wheel chairs as to walking aids as fear of falling and injury is a mindset. • Frustration at night time when a person has to be helped into bed and cannot do it themselves. Example • Experiment carried out in Scandinavia • To test the difference in age groups regards to building muscle. • Age groups of 20-30 and 70-85 years old. • Given routine tasks to perform each day for 6 weeks. • Muscle properties measured before and after experiment for both groups. • Result: Both groups muscle properties grew equally. • Conclusion: Mobility loss due to can be prevented as muscle builds no matter what age.
