Instruction box This template PowerPoint presentation is intended to assist in delivering training to health service staff, including explaining what a HJP is, why it is valuable and how to identify legal issues. Part 1 can be used to inform legal and health service staff about what a HJP is and its benefits, or to present to external stakeholders. Part 2 is intended to assist health service staff to identify legal issues in order to make referrals for patients to see the Legal Service lawyer.

Many types of HJPs • Co-location model – lawyer working as part of clinic/hospital staff within medical facility • Clinic model – regular clinic located at clinic/hospital, with referrals made by clinic/hospital staff • On call service – lawyer attends on an ‘as needs’ basis to provide immediate legal services within clinic/hospital setting
