Review • The subject is the person, place, thing, or idea talked about in the sentence. • The purpose of the sentence is to explain what the subject IS or DOES.
The Predicate • The other importance part of the subject is the predicate. • Finding the predicate is easy. • Once you’ve found the subject, everything else is the predicate. • The predicate is the part that tells what the subject IS or DOES.
Example The mechanic replaced the car’s muffler. verb= replaced (action verb) subject = The mechanic What is the predicate? replaced the car’s muffler.
Example #2 The muffler is expensive. Verb = is (linking verb) Subject = The muffler Predicate = is expensive.
