  1. Plot Objective: I can describe the plot and its components, by filling out a plot diagram based on a piece of literature.

  2. Essential Questions 1. What is a plot? What are the parts of a plot? 2. How do I identify each part of the plot? How do I support this with evidence from the text?3. How does analyzing the plot help me comprehend the story better?

  3. Describe- Tell something in written or spoken words Main Events- Most important situations Exposition- introduces the characters, setting and basic situation. Setting- The time and place of a story Characters- Main people in the passage Key Vocabulary

  4. Key Vocabulary • Conflict- A struggle between opposing forces • RisingAction- The series of conflicts or struggles that build a story toward a climax. • Climax- or turning point, which is the most exciting part of the story. • FallingAction- events after the climax, leading to the resolution; tension eases. • Resolution- End of the story where loose ends are tied up.

Exposition (Introduction)- Main characters: Hector and Carlos Conflict (problem): Hector and Carlos don’t want to be in the YMCA after school program so they decide not to follow any of the rules. Rising Action (complications): They boys are not supposed to be outside, but they don’t listen and go. When it is time to go, everyone leaves and locks the school because they do not know the boys are in the quad. Identifying the PLOT Components

  7. Identifying the PLOT Components Climax (The characters make a decision that settles the conflict):Hector and Carlos find themsleves locked in the quad alone. They try all the doors and gates but they are locked, and they can’t get out. Falling Action (Events in the story fall toward a resolution):The boys become frightened, whensuddenly the boys hear whistling, which is coming from the custodian.

  8. Identifying the PLOT Components Resolution (The conflict is resolved): They boys are happy to see the custodian, and he lets the boys out of the school.
