  5. Curriculum Reading • Common Core ELA Standards - phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension • Whole group & small group instruction • Literature Studies • Accelerated Reader Program (AR)

  6. Curriculum Language Arts • Common Core ELA Standards - Grammar Skills - The Writing Process - The Six Traits of Good Writing • Assigned Weekly Spelling - Rebecca Sitton -Assigned on Monday and tested on Friday • Learn Cursive Handwriting!!!

Curriculum Math Common Core Mathematics Standards • 2012-2013 Transition Year Learning Objectives • Memorize Math Facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) • Number Sense & Number Patterns • Time, Money, Measurement • Graphing , Data Analysis, Geometry • Problem Solving & Logic Reasoning

  9. Curriculum Technology Computer Lab (Ms. Sanders) • Gain knowledge about technology • Develop technology skills • Apply and interact with technology Student Work Stations in the Classroom • Conduct Research • Play Learning Games • Word Processing • Accelerated Reader

Classroom Community • Morning Meeting(Greeting, Sharing, & Daily Schedule) • Positive Reinforcement • Table Points and Classroom Rewards - Student Awards, Praise Notes, “Caught in the Act” Tickets • Fun Friday Activities • “Character Counts” Classroom Discipline • Six pillars of good character • Consequences • Agendas ( Parent Signature Required  ) - Agendas go home daily! Please check your child’s agenda for important classroom and school information.

  11. Grades • Students Receive Letter Grades  - Classroom Assignments - Assessments/Quizzes - Classroom Participation - Projects • Mid-Quarter Progress Reports • Quarterly Report Cards

Homework • Homework packet goes home on Monday and is due back on Friday • Purpose is to reinforce skills being taught in the classroom • Reading minutes need to be recorded nightly (20 minutes) and “Reading Log” needs to be signed by a parent at the end of the week. • Homework Expectation (Total of 30 minutes a night) • Important Things to Remember… -Provide an organized work space at home -Set up a consistent homework schedule -Practice spelling words and math facts with your child each night  Note…Homework is spot checked for completion and understanding, but not taken for a grade.

  13. Volunteer Opportunities • Classroom Volunteers * Please fill out the volunteer form in your packet if you are interested and we will call on you as needed. Thanks for your support! • Room Parent & PTO Liaison • Junior Achievement • Art Masterpiece (monthly or bi-monthly)

Tax Credit • Possible Third Grade Field Trips • Service Learning Project “Chores for Charity” • Arizona Museum of Natural History • Child’s Play Theater We Need Your Help… * In order to have these fun experiences we are encouraging tax credit donations be made to Third Grade. We can’t do it without you! * BONUS…You get ALL of your money (up to $400.00) back at tax time! Yeah!!!

  15. Last Minute Notes… • Please be sure to fill out all of the paperwork in the “Welcome Folder” and the “Chandler District Folder”. Please return to Mrs. Mack and Mrs. Nelsen tonight or on Monday. Thank You!  • Check out the School Supply List in your “Welcome Folder.”  • Be sure to attach bus tags to your child’s backpack for the first day of school.  • Please make sure that electronic devices are left at home per district policy. If a cell phone is required it must be turned off and stored in your child’s backpack. Thank you so much! 
