NewAssessmentsfor2014-2015 • The AIMS test, which is not aligned to the existing standards, was used for the last time in Spring 2014. • Arizona State Board of Education is devoted to the selection of a rigorous assessment to measure student learning and inform the State’s accountability measures. • The State Board of Education’s final selection and adoption of a new statewide English language arts and mathematics achievement assessment is expected to occur in early October, 2014. • This new statewide achievement assessment will be aligned to Arizona’s College and Career Ready Standards and will be administered beginning in the spring of 2015.

  14. Grading • Proficient 85 – 100% • Developing 70 – 84% • Area of Concern - below 70% • Progress Reports (quarterly)

  15. Success Club • Each Friday, students have the opportunity to participate in Success Club. • Success Club includes a choice of an activity, such as games, art, or computer. Students who have not earned Success Club will go to Study Hall. • Students earn Success Club by: • Completing and turning in all homework • Completing and turning in all class work • Acceptable behavior for the week

  18. Student Binders • Goes to and from school daily • Subject Resources – leave in binder • Weekly Assignment Calendar • Responsibility Chart for each quarter • Mailbox – notes/info to and from parents • Save – papers saved by students

  19. Homework • Daily Assignments • Monday: Spelling Packet  Due Wednesday • Tuesday: Math • Wednesday: Reading & Vocabulary • Thursday: Math • Read 20 minutes daily (Mon-Thurs) • signature on assignment calendar acknowledges this has been complete • Weekly Parent Signature

  20. Clip Chart-Behavior Management • The Super Student level is reserved for ABOVE AND BEYOND behavior. A student who reaches this level will receive a Super Student certificate. • Students can move to the Great Job level for continuing to display good behavior. You should be very proud of yourself! • Students will move to the Good Choices level for showing that they are making the right behavior decisions! Ending the day on this level is great! • Every student will start the day on the Ready to Learn level. As the day goes on, clips can be moved up and down based on behavior. This level is a good one to be on! • A student will be moved to the Think About It level as a warning about his/her behavior after one verbal warning. • Students who continue to display poor behavior can move down to the Teacher’s Choice level. The teacher decides what action to take. • Parent Contact– Ms. Starr will call or email parents. A visit to the principal might also be in order.

  21. Work Folders Student work folders will come home on Friday. Please take time over the weekend to review your child’s work with him/her and then sign the signature page. Classroom Web Page Our classroom web page contains information about our class and links for students. Parent Volunteers As soon as we are settled into our routines, I will be soliciting parent volunteers. I look forward to having parents help in the classroom in various ways!
