Tactics • A tactic is a plan that is made before you play so that: • Everyone knows their role and responsibilities. • You can practice it. • Everyone can play in their best position. • If a player is weak then you can put them in an area where a stronger team- mate can help. • Everyone knows where on the pitch/court they need to stand. • If an opposition player is weak then you can put a stronger player from your team against them.
Adapting a tactic • You may need to change because of • Injury • Substitution • Sending off • The tactic the opposition is employing. • Their strengths • Your weaknesses • The weather • The surface • The equipment
Principles of Play • These are things that you should try to do. • Create • Width in attack • Depth in defence • Delay in defence • Tempo • Mobility
Width in attack • Wingers in football – pull defenders wide and create a space in front of goal. • Wingers in basketball playing the outside channels creating space under the basket • Playing cross court in Badminton to push opponent wide to create space in the centre of the court to smash into.
Depth in defence • Creating layers of players the opposition have to get past before they reach your goal. • In football playing a sweeper gives a layer. • In basketball playing a zone gives layers • In doubles Badminton a front and back player makes it more difficult to find space
Tempo • During the game change speed to create confusion in the opposition. • In football the counter attack • In basketball the fast break • In badminton smash the shuttle

Physical Qualities/Personal Qualities • On the sheet are a list of qualities you need to perform both playing and non playing roles • Put a ph or per against the list • Make 2 lists in your jotters and place the qualities under the appropriate heading. • Add in any more that you can think of.
Adapting Games • We adapt games so that everyone can be involved more. • We adapt games so we can learn and use the skills without so many distractions of a full game
Ways we can adapt a game • Size of the teams – Football • Size of the playing area – Badminton • Equipment - Hockey • Facilities – Football • Rules – Volleyball • Scoring – Badminton
