LI: To create my own tribe of the Amazon rainforest. To compare my own life to that of an Amazon tribe. LIVING THERE PEOPLE OF THE RAINFOREST We often overlook the millions of people that live in the rain forests. Did you know that there are about 50,000,000 tribal people living in world's rainforests? These people depend on the forests for their food and shelter.
From a young age, all Awá learn how to hunt. They are extremely skilled with a bow and arrow! Awa Tribe- Brazil The Awá are an endangered indigenous group of people living in the eastern Amazon forests of Brazil. Approximately 350 members survive, and 100 of those have no contact with the outside world. Family Life Many family groups go off on extended hunts lasting several weeks. Awa children do not go to school! Apãranã ("Little Butterfly") swings from a liana over a creek where children bathe and play. The Awá live in extended family groups. Families go on gathering trips where everybody collect nuts and berries.
Diet The Awa eat nuts, berries and seeds, they also hunt deer and fish. They especially like turtle meat! Pets Baby monkeys spend much time with Awá women and children enjoying the physical contact. Many monkeys like to sit on their owners' heads. Homes The Awa sleep in palm leaf shelters in the forest and make torches out of tree resin to light at night.

RA Dear My name is Akra my home is the Amazon Rainforest. I am part of the Awatribe. My life is much different to yours. Each day I get up at 5.00 am. For breakfast I collect the crops for my family to eat. I do not go to school. Each day I eat fish for my lunchwhich I have to catch from the river using an arrow. We don’t watch T.V or play computer games. For fun members of the tribe gather to dance and sometimes sing.
HU Dear My name is Akra my home is the Amazon Rainforest. I am part of the Awa tribe. My life is much different to yours. Each day I get up at 5.00 am. In my village we grow crops including, Beans, Corn and Bananas. For breakfast I collect the crops for my family to eat. I do not go to school, I help my family. Each day we hunt for food. We hunt for turtles and fish in the river catching them with arrows. We cook the food over a fire while it is fresh. I usually have fish for my lunch. The rainforest is valuable to tribes as it has many resources we can use to build our homes, light our fires and provide medicines when we are sick. We live in Harmony with the rainforest and only use the resources we need. We don’t have electricity to watch T.V or play computer games. For entertainment members of the tribe gather to dance and sometimes sing.
