Coastal Habitats Coasts are places where the land meets the sea. Australia is an island and has a huge coastline that has many different habitats. Freshwater Habitats Freshwater habitats include lakes, rivers, billabongs, wetlands and ponds. Many animals and plants live in or near these habitats. They rely on them to provide food, water, shelter and a place to breed. Lets look at the Australian Platypus Why do you think the platypus has webbed feet? The platypus catches food while it is swimming. It eats worms, freshwater shrimps and yabbies. The platypus builds burrows for shelter. The platypus also lays its eggs in burrows. What other animals live in freshwater habitats?
Forests Forests are places with tall trees of all different heights. In Australia the three main types of forests include dry forests, wet forests and rainforests. Why are trees Important? Oxygen for fresh air Provide food ,water and shelter for animals What would happen if all the trees were cut down? What wildlife would you find in the forest?
