Travel Information Highway Outcome Delivery & Working Group project.
The TIH Community • The Objective of TIH is to support the Traffic and Travel Information Industry to exchange data to enhance the information available to both operators and travellers. • Our key outputs are the TIH Principles that provide:- • Advice on Compliance • Usage Agreement • Expert Guidance • TIH is not a system • It is the agreed framework for joining systems together via the Internet • It simply sets out rules for data exchange
TIH Community members • Currently 517 members (to June 2009) • Diverse membership across public and private sector • A-One, GCap Media, Google, BBC…. • 41 Local Authorities have signed up:- Cambridgeshire, Lancashire, Nottingham, Sheffield, Reading, plus many more….
TIH TIH uses a ‘common practice’ approach to exchange travel information, only adopting practices that are both relevant to all members and conform to international standards. These common practices are collectively know as the TIH principles.
TIH Principles Principles for Development:- • Location references should follow international standards • Security levels should match the value of the data • Data should be published using XML • The format of the data should be described adequately
TIH Approach To build universal system to system links to exchange traffic & travel information that: Enables system to system links to be constructed effectively Enables the DLOA process to be more effective and supports potential eDLOA development Enables LTA’s to comply with Traffic Management Act 2004 • Information exchange with operational partners • Diversion routes • Demand Management • Access Control • Incident management • Event management • Emergency planning
Why use TIH? To build universal system to system links to exchange traffic and travel data that: • Save time & money by using the hard won experience of others • Offers business and software toolkits to speed up development • Embraces existing common practices by bringing practitioners together
