Memo Highlights e • Who is the memo addressed to? All Health Sciences/Univ. of Utah Health Care staff, faculty and students. • New Federal regulations for breach notifications requirements and enhanced penalties. • Just “a password” on a computer is NOT sufficient for PHI protection. • All laptops and USB drives with PHI (or other confidential information) MUST be encrypted by: September 30, 2010.
How do I get Encrypted? FULL-DISK ENCRYPTION Laptop encryption: Please call 587-6000 press option “2”. Non-UIT supported areas please contact your IT department and ask them about encryption. USB Thumb Drives: (Must be hardware encrypted) http://support.med.utah.edu then click on “Asset Requests”. Or contact: Winn Redd about ordering questions.
Hospital & Clinic Staff that have been encrypted using McAfee Endpoint Encryption (SafeBoot) can check to see if they are encrypted. Restart your laptop (power off then back on)
