  3. ESRI / GIS Products • OCIO will distribute ESRI products • Center for Mapping is no longer distributing after June 30 • Central license server • On Campus use, or via VPN • Off campus use and servers are still being worked out • Heavy-Use Departments are cost sharing, and making it available

  4. ESRI / GIS Products • Software will be extended to students for personal machines • Software is now treated as a “true” site license • Paid for via cooperative means • Distributed with no usage cap • Available to the entire university • No per-install fees • Expected start: Early August

  5. Renewals • NVivo • Renewals on June 1, 2014 • NVivo for Mac expected out in June • SPSS • Renewals on July 1, 2014 • MATLAB • Renews on August 30, 2014

  6. Office365 and iPad Apps • iPad apps for Word, Excel, and Powerpoint were released at the end of March • Office365 users are the only people eligible for a login • O365 for University price: $80/4 years • Current Microsoft contract includes: • Office365 for Students? Yes. • Office365 for Fac/Staff? No.

  7. Office365 and iPad Apps • Today’s offering is: • Students, faculty, and staff can purchase a perpetual copy of Office Pro Plus 2013 for $49 at WiredOut. • Perpetual • No O365 services • One computer • We can continue to sell the perpetual copy through FY15 (graduating students, fac/staff)

  8. Office365 and iPad Apps • Office365 offer from MS (that we have currently licensed for students) includes: • Up to 5 devices • c.f. O365 University – 4 devices: 2 computers, 2 tablets • We can choose which O365 services to turn on • Subscription-based • Graduates must purchase a subscription to remain on license

  9. Office365 and OneDrive • Announcement yesterday of OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) being updated from 25GB to 1TB for O365 Education users • Requires A2 or A3 • Student Advantage is likely not affected by this; only faculty/staff would receive this benefit in its current form • There are contract concerns with OneDrive that need to be resolved

  10. Office365 • Where do we go from here? • OCIO is working on technical issues to provide access • Students are the first priority, then Fac/Staff • Examination of OneDrive and options • Departmental purchases are one option, as individual departments could buy licenses once the tech side is resolved

  11. Pricing Changes for SLS • Expected price changes next year • Parallels (Already Updated) • Old price: $34. New price: $35 • Nvivo (beginning June 1) • Old price: $42. New price: $50 • Adding: NVivo Mac • Minitab (beginning July 1) • Old price: free. New price: $12 • Update to v. 17 • Sigmaplot (beginning July 1) • Old price: $16. New price: $21

  12. Pricing Changes for SLS • OCIO will continue to provide a central share for budgeted FY15 purchases of: • MATLAB • SPSS • SYSTAT • We expect to approach total recovery on those in FY16.

  13. Adobe • Adobe brought a new pricing option to the table in early January. • We have achieved approx. 70% funding based on current budgets • IUC has put an offer to Adobe for a deeper discounted price. Information pending. • IUC offer has been rejected by Adobe • Counter-offer expected on Friday • OCIO SLS may set up another meeting this month with Adobe stakeholders

  14. Adobe • Adobe is seeking to release “Creative Cloud for Education” with device-based licensing • Ideal for labs: current CC offering is user-based • BGSU received a quote yesterday (based on CLP pricing): • $168.51 for device user licensing • $279.28 for named user licensing

  15. Symantec Antivirus Licenses • OCIO Security has purchased a site-wide license for Symantec Protection Suite • Includes • AntiVirus • Recovery Desktop • Ghost • Several other components • Ghost will be available via OCIO Self Service by 5/15/15

  16. Microsoft SQL Server • Microsoft has made an offer of approximately $400k to license the entire University starting July 1, to co-term with our Campus Agreement • Cost is approximately $6/FTE (faculty, staff, and students) • The University has reached a tipping point where licensing it for everyone will be cheaper than licensing it based on individual departmental need going forward.

  17. Microsoft Support Calendar • April 8, 2014 • Windows XP • Office 2003 • Exchange 2003 • July 14, 2015 • Windows Server 2003 • July 8, 2015 – Extended Support Transition • SQL Server 2008 and SQL 2008 R2 will no longer have Mainstream Support
